Subject: The c**t finally retires again

Republic of Ireland midfielder Roy Keane has announced his retirement from international football.

The 34-year-old Manchester United star has decided to step down following Ireland's failure to qualify for the World Cup finals next summer.

His decision follows that of captain Kenny Cunningham, who announced his international retirement after Ireland's World Cup exit was confirmed by a goalless draw with Switzerland on Wednesday.

In a statement released to the Irish national broadcaster RTE, Keane said: "Like all football supporters in the country, I am disappointed that the Republic of Ireland failed to qualify for the World Cup finals. Despite the efforts of Brian Kerr, his staff and the squad who made an endeavour to qualify.

"I believe recent criticism of Brian in the media is unjust and unfair.

"I would like to continue playing for my country, but I feel the time has come to retire from international football and concentrate on domestic football for whatever is the remainder of my career."

It is the second time Keane has retired from the international scene, the first occasion after a bust-up with former manager Mick McCarthy prior to the 2002 World Cup.

Keane made his debut for Ireland in 1991 and went on to win 66 caps, but was unable to influence the conclusion to their failed bid to reach Germany 2006.

A fractured foot sustained in United's goalless Premiership draw with Liverpool last month meant he had to sit out this week's games against Cyprus and the Swiss.

His team-mates kept up hopes by winning in Cyprus last weekend, but the midweek draw meant it was the Swiss that took the play-off place from their group.

This time, lets hope he stays retired from International Football. All we need now is for him to retire from Football altogether

I'm not exactly sure. I mean, doesn't our National team perform
better against the bigger nations?
