Subject: Bolton in Charleroi talks over partnership deal

Charleroi are in talks with Bolton Wanderers over a partnership
alliance.

The Belgian club's president, Abbas Bayat, is in talks with Bolton
chiefs about securing an agreement which it's understood would see the
two clubs exchange players, coaches and commercial opportunities.

Several Premiership clubs enjoy similar arrangements with Belgian
clubs, including Manchester United (Royal Antwerp), Arsenal (Beveren)
and Blackburn Rovers (Cercle Bruges).

***************************

Bruges are in talks with Spurs, so that our reserves can have some
practice :p

Subject: Racism costs CSKA and Steaua

CSKA Sofia and Steaua Bucuresti have both been fined by UEFA for
racist chanting by supporters at recent Champions League home games.

Firecrackers lit
The UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body has fined Bulgarian side CSKA
€19,500 for the behaviour of their fans during the home leg of their
second qualifying round tie against Liverpool, in which the match
observer reported five incidences of firecrackers being let off at
the stadium.

Cissé abused
The observer also noted that Liverpool striker Djibril Cissé came in
for racist abuse during the latter stages of the game. The problem
began with the crowd booing the player every time he received the
ball, but for the final 12 minutes of the match, these boos turned
into "monkey noises".

Steaua punishment
Meanwhile, Romanian team Steaua have been handed a €16,500 penalty
for the behaviour of their supporters at the second leg of their
Champions League second qualifying round tie against Shelbourne.

'Monkey sounds'
After eight minutes, it was reported that plastic bottles were thrown
from the Steaua fans at the Shelbourne bench. After 80 minutes,
Shelbourne substitute Ndo Joseph's arrival on the pitch was greeted
by "monkey sounds" from the home supporters, which recurred every
time the player touched the ball.

Appeal deadline
Steaua and CSKA both have until midnight on 22 August to mount an
appeal against UEFA's decisions.

**************************

In Eastern Europe, monkey sounds are just a normal football song, you
can't punish them for that ;)

Subject: Genk bring Peeters back to Belgium

KRC Genk have signed former Belgian international Bob Peeters from
English club Millwall.

Hampered by injuries
The 31-year-old striker arrives for an undisclosed transfer fee and has
agreed a two-year contract. Peeters joined Millwall during the 2003/04
campaign, playing 20 matches that season for the second-tier team.
However, foot and ankle injuries limited him to five substitute
appearances over the following two terms.

International talent
Prior to these problems, Peeters had been a consistent performer for
Lierse in Belgium and Roda JC and Vitesse in the Netherlands. He was
rewarded with 13 international caps between 1998 and 2002.

***************************

No wonder Millwall is last now :p

Subject: Denílson makes Manisaspor move

Ambitious Turkish Superleague newcomers Manisaspor have landed
Brazilian international midfield player Denílson on a one-year loan
deal from Spanish side Real Betis Balompié.

International honours
The 27-year-old, part of the 2002 World Cup winning squad and capped
61 times overall up to 2003, has been at Betis since his world-record
€32m transfer from São Paulo in 1998, save for a loan spell at
Flamengo in 2000/01 after Betis were relegated to the Segunda
División. A Copa Libertadores and European/South American Cup winner
with São Paulo, Denílson's last Betis appearance came in the 1-0
Champions League third qualifying round first-leg win at home to AS
Monaco last week.

'Extremely happy'
Manisaspor spokesman Kenan Yarali said: "We are extremely happy to
welcome a world-class player to Manisa. We have also put a clause in
the contract allowing us to borrow him again next season. He will
arrive in our city very soon." The club lie second in the nascent
Superleague table, having drawn 2-2 against Ankaragücü before winning
5-0 at Malatyaspor.

********************************

What a waste of talent!

Th computer-generated ranking of Europe's top football clubs, is
based on each club's performance over its past 50 games. Numerous
criteria are used, including a special weighting to reflect current
form.
Each team's rating is expressed as a percentage of the top-ranked
team. In principle, it includes all domestic and European games
played up to and including Sunday 14th August 2005. Newly promoted
teams will be given a provisional rating after 25 games.

Subject: Real hotel bill more than money raised for Puskas

The Real Madrid team that played a benefit match for Ferenc Puskas
last week spent 25.5 million forints (71,000 pounds) on hotels and
expenses, more than the 22.5 million raised for the Hungarian great.

Real also picked up 320 million forints in fees for their appearance,
according to a spokesman for the organising company, Hungary's
TriGranit.

Hungarian state news agency MTI reported total receipts from the game
were 421 million forints, and said the balance went on ground hire,
security and other expenses.

Real beat the Puskas All-Stars 3-1 in a testimonial match for the
former Real and Hungary player, aged 78, who is in hospital suffering
from a disease similar to Alzheimer's.

The match was supposed to raise money to help with his medical
expenses.

Puskas, Hungary's most famous sportsman, captained his country to win
the 1952 Olympic title.

A year later the "Magical Magyars" became the first overseas team to
beat England at Wembley when they crushed their hosts 6-3.

Puskas is the only player to score four goals in a European Cup
final, when Real crushed Eintracht Frankfurt 7-3 in 1960.

*******************************

That's great, they can't even help the striker who gave them 5
European titles...
