I don't know Crouch that good, but yeah, Milan is Liverpool's best
striker.

Subject: Short deal for Houghton in Uzbekistan

The Uzbekistan FA confirmed that new coach Englishman Bobby Houghton
will be given a four-month contract in order to determine whether the
former Soviet Republic qualifies for the World Cup.

The country currently lies bottom of Group A in the final stage of
Asian World Cup qualifiers with only two points from five games.
However, if the Central Asian nation defeats Kuwait in Tashkent on
August 17, then Uzbekistan will enter the play-offs.

First up, will be Bahrain, the third-placed team from Group B. The
winner of that encounter will do battle with the fourth-placed team
from CONCAFAF with a place in Germany at stake.

If the Uzbekis win that place then Houghton, former Fulham and Brighton
midfielder, could have his contract extended.

Go Uzbekistan :)

Subject: Dabizas close to Anderlecht move

Nikos Dabizas is reported to be heading to Belgium to play for
Anderlecht.

The 31-year-old defender is said to have held talks with the club's
management and the two sides are close to agreeing to a deal.

Dabizas is now free to move to a club of his choosing after his
contract with Leicester ran out recently. The Greek international had
previously turned out for Newcastle and before that for Olympiakos in
Greece.

Dabizas, a member of Greece's Euro 2004 winning side, had played in
England for eight years, five seasons as a member of Newcastle and
the last two as a Leicester player.

************************

That would be nice as he should be a good defender.
Seems like Anderlecht are making a nice team this year by signing a
few good players and lost only Aruna Dindane to Lens.

Also Standard managed to keep their strong side, they just lost 0-1
to a full Juventus during the weekend.

Bruges having lost several key players will actually have to fight
for grabbing a CL spot next season :p

Well, I believe that at the moment the league will end like this:
1.Anderlecht
2.Standard
3.Club Brugge
4.RC Genk
5.AA Gent

Let's see if we will finish for the first time in 10 years out of the
top 2 :)

Subject: USA and Germany shine

Germany (11th, up 10) are the biggest winners in this month's FIFA
World Ranking, which takes into account 61 international matches from
recent weeks. A ten-place climb sees Jurgen Klinsmann's team secure
their highest position in over a year thanks to impressive results in
the Confederations Cup, where a German victory over Argentina or
Brazil would have seen them make inroads into the top ten.

It comes as no surprise that the two finalists, Brazil and Argentina,
retain their places at the top. However, the Netherlands, with their
best ranking in over eleven years, the Czech Republic, Mexico and the
USA all keep the leaders in their sights. Bruce Arena's US team (6th,
up 4) proudly occupy their loftiest ever spot in the ranking on the
back of success in the ongoing CONCACAF Gold Cup and now find
themselves hot on the heels of regional rivals Mexico.

In the upper echelons, Japan (13th, up 5), Tunisia (32nd, up 6) and
Gold Cup semi-finalists Honduras (39th, up 11) all make good
progress, while Iran (15th, up 2) are another team celebrating a
highest ever placing.

Outside the top 50, a number of teams climb five or more places,
including China PR (56th, up 5), Zambia (62nd, up 11), Ghana (70th,
up 6), Chile (72nd, up 5), Panama (a best ever 83rd, up 15) and Gabon
(98th, up 5).

This month's most lucrative victories in terms of points gained prove
to be Ghana's 2-0 World Cup qualifier win over South Africa and
Brazil's 4-1 gala performance against Argentina in Frankfurt.

Subject: Anderlecht up and running

RSC Anderlecht took a huge step towards the Champions League third
qualifying round, the draw for which takes place this Friday, as five
different players opened their 2005/06 accounts in an emphatic
victory against Azeri side PFC Neftchi in Belgium.

Enjoyable outing
Hannu Tihinen, Nenad Jestrovic, Mbo Mpenza and Bart Goor all found
the net in a frantic 16-minute spell midway through the first half of
a one-sided second qualifying round first-leg encounter as coach
Franky Vercauteren experienced an enjoyable first European outing
with Anderlecht. Veteran defender Yves Vanderhaeghe then sealed the
win late on.

Goal rush
Finnish defender Tihinen broke the deadlock on 20 minutes and
Jestrovic, who scored 18 league goals for Anderlecht last season,
doubled the lead three minutes later. The 28-year-old Belgium striker
Mpenza made it three just past the half-hour mark and midfield player
Goor's goal came with ten minutes of the first half still to play.

Considerable advantage
Vanderhaeghe's 78th-minute goal, the 35-year-old's fourth of the
calendar year, ensured last season's Belgian First Division runners-
up will take a considerable advantage to Azerbaijan for the second
leg next week.

*******************************

Seems like there won't be an Azeri team in this season's CL group
campaign neither :)

Subject: Davids poised to join Spurs

Edgar Davids is set join Tottenham Hotspur from Internazionale on a
free transfer, subject to a medical and agreeing personal terms.
"He is one of the most versatile midfielders, a playmaker, a ball-
winner with great stamina and huge charisma," said Spurs head coach
Martin Jol.

"It's terrific that he is joining us. He will lift the team's
performance."

Davids, 32, has 73 caps for the Netherlands and has also played for
Ajax, AC Milan, Juventus and Barcelona.

Jol added: "We have a young squad with an average age of 23 and I
believe Edgar will come in and lead by example.

"This is a player who went to Barcelona when they were middle of the
league and took them close to winning the title."

Davids joined Barcelona on loan in January 2004 and helped them put
together a successful run that saw them finishing second to Valencia
in La Liga.

However, he was unable to agree a deal with Barca and returned to
Juventus last summer, before moving on to Inter on a free transfer.

But he found himself something of a peripheral figure at Inter, only
occasionally playing in the first team.

And now he is poised to move to White Hart Lane in North London.

He began his career with Ajax, winning the Uefa Cup in 1992 and the
Dutch title in 1994, 1995 and 1996.

Then he had a stint with AC Milan from August 1996 until December
1997, when he joined Juventus, where he won three Serie A titles - in
1998, 2002 and 2003 - and reached three Champions League finals.

Davids was also in the Dutch team that reached the 1998 World Cup
semi-finals and the last four of Euro 2000 and Euro 2004.

***********************

So Spurs can sign big names after all!
Well done.
