Subject: Steaua settle for Protasov

Romanian champions Steaua Bucuresti have named former USSR striker
Oleg Protasov as their new coach.

Athens negotiations
The 41-year-old Ukrainian agreed a two-season contract after talks in
Athens with Steaua executive president Mihai Stoica. He will be
presented to the press on Monday.

'A well-run club'
Protasov was in charge of Olympiacos during the 2003/04 campaign
before leading Cypriot side AEL Limassol for three months of the
season just ended. "Steaua are a well-run club with some very good
players," said Protasov, a veteran of the 1986 and 1990 World Cups
and a European Championship runner-up in 1988.

Zenga casualty
He replaces caretaker coach Dumitru Dumitriu, who had succeeded the
sacked Walter Zenga for the championship run-in. Steaua had been
expected to appoint a Romanian coach but the leading candidates were
unavailable for the post. Protasov is unlikely to have influential
midfielder Dorinel Munteanu at his disposal with the 36-year-old set
to become player-coach at CFR Cluj.

Good to see Steaua back on the Romanian top!

Subject: Trond Sollied set for Olympiacos

Olympiacos are set to sign Club Brugge's head coach, Trond Sollied,
following the departure of Serbian coach Dusan Bajevic, who attracted
criticism despite leading the club to a league and cup double last term.

The Greek champions' board of directors decided today, according to its
official announcement, to follow all the procedures for signing Trond
Sollied.

The 46 year-old is understood to have met Olympiacos president Socrates
Kokkalis last week on the Greek island of Crete, and agreed upon an
initial two-year deal with the option of a third but they haven't
announced officially their agreement as the Norwegian is currently
under contract at Brugge and Olympiacos have to pay compensation in the
region of 400,000 euros to get him.

Former Lyon boss Paul Le Guen was thought to be their first-choice, but
they moved for Sollied after Le Guen rejected their overtures.

Last February, Sollied was close to Panathinaikos but he decided to
reject their offer for the job of coach.

Although I am very happy with Sollied's work during the past 5 years in
Bruges, I believe it's time for something else.
Now that we are selling/loosing several first team players such as our
2 backs, central midfielder Ceh and probably captain Timmy Simons, it's
time for change.
Still, it's not official yet that he is leaving that's what most people
expect...

The biggest rumour is also that Club Brugge will name their all time
best player Jan Ceulemans as new coach. Time will tell...

I agree that he could loose a lot if he would become our new coach,
also he doesn't have much experience at the highest level as manager.
But neither did Rijkaard or Van Basten who have lots of succes now.

Ceulemans is doing well at the moment. He is coach of the Belgian
first division team Westerlo which has a low budget. Still in the 7
years he was manager there, they never had to fight against
relegation.

So, if he would become the new coach, it would still be a big
question about how good he can adapt to this level.

At least he played at the highest level as player as he managed to
play in a European Championship final and World Cup semi final.
