Subject: Brøndby clinch Danish double

Brøndby clinched their tenth Danish title in style on Saturday with a
commanding 7-0 victory against Herfølge BK. Brøndby, who add the
league title to their Danish Cup triumph on 5 May, have 63 points
from 31 matches and though second-placed FC København still have two
games to play, Michael Laudrup's side can no longer be caught.

Laudrup first
"I cannot say if I am happier with this championship, than I was when
winning with Real Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus, or Ajax - I will just
say that this title is different, because I have won it as a coach,
the others as a player," said Laudrup, who never won the Danish title
as a player despite such a successful career.

Kahlenberg double
Johan Elmander opened the scoring for Brøndby on 14 minutes and after
Thomas Kahlenberg had doubled the lead from the penalty spot five
minutes later there was no looking back, defenders Per Nielsen and
Daniel Agger adding further goals before half-time. Martin Retov made
it five minutes at the start of the second half, Kahlenberg added the
sixth and Morten Skoubo completed the rout with seven minutes to play.

Table:
1.Brøndby.... 31 18 09 04 57-22 63 Champions
2.København.. 30 15 07 08 50-37 52
3.Midtjylland 30 15 05 10 42-39 50
4.AaB........ 30 14 07 09 55-39 49

Last titles:
1995/96 Brøndby IF
1996/97 Brøndby IF
1997/98 Brøndby IF
1998/99 AaB
1999/00 Herfølge BK
2000/01 FC København
2001/02 Brøndby IF
2002/03 FC København
2003/04 FC København
2004/05 Brøndby IF

Number of titles

Subject: Dani delivers for Betis

Real Betis Balompié won the Copa del Rey for the second time in their
history when substitute striker Dani snatched an extra-time winner to
give his side a 2-1 victory over Osasuna at the Calderon on Saturday.

Dani winner
The pint-sized forward raced on to a precisly weighted pass from
Ricardo Oliveira and fired a sharp shot past Osasuna goalkeeper
Juantxo Elia into the far corner five minutes from the end of extra-
time to notch the winner.

Oliveira opener
The Andalucian side had seemed headed for victory in normal time when
Oliveira gave them the lead in the 77th minute after taking advantage
of a defensive mix-up to dart between Juantxo Elia and Cesar Cruchaga
and poke the ball into the empty net. But the goal prompted Osasuna
to throw everyone forward and substitute striker John Aloisi
equalised five minutes later - just three after entering the fray.

Late equaliser
The Australian powered in a close-range header at the far post after
French midfield player Ludovic Delporte had delivered in a pin-point
cross following a jinking run down the left wing. But Dani's well-
taken winner spoiled the Navarrans' hopes of lifting their first
trophy and Osasuna's misery was complete when Uruguayan midfielder
Pablo Garcia was sent off for lashing out at Fernando Varela in the
final minute of extra time. For Betis the victory came at the stadium
where they enjoyed thier only other triumph in the competition,
defeating Athletic Bilbao on penalties in the 1977 final.

Last finals:
1999 Valencia CF 3-0 Atlético de Madrid
2000 RCD Espanyol 2-1 Atlético de Madrid
2001 Real Zaragoza 3-1 RC Celta
2002 RC Deportivo 2-1 Real Madrid
2003 RCD Mallorca 3-0 Recreativo de Huelva
2004 Real Zaragoza 3-2 Real Madrid [aet]
2005 Real Betis Balompié 2-1 Osasuna [aet]

Number of Wins (103):
24 FC Barcelona
23 Athletic de Bilbao
17 Real Madrid
09 Atlético de Madrid
06 Valencia CF
06 Real Zaragoza
03 RCD Espanyol Barcelona
03 Sevilla FC
03 Real Unión de Irún
02 RC Deportivo La Coruña

Subject: Naybet to stay with Spurs

Veteran defender Noureddine Naybet has pledged to remain with Tottenham
for one more season despite the lure of a profitable move to Qatar.

The 35-year-old Moroccan joined from Deportivo last year and played a
key role in helping Spurs to finish ninth in the table.

Naybet said: "I've made up my mind to stay for another season. I am
happy in London and do not want to change.

"The option of playing in Qatar has arisen several times but it never
came to anything.

"I still have enough years left in me in England. All the players
believe we are good enough to get into the Uefa Cup next year and we
will prove it."

***************************

Maybe Spurs should start with a younger player instead.

Subject: Stuttgart's Kuranyi signs for Schalke

VfB Stuttgart's German international striker Kevin Kuranyi has signed
for Bundesliga rivals Schalke 04.

With Stuttgart still searching for a new coach to replace Matthias
Sammer, Kuranyi told Bild am Sonntag: "I have signed a five-year
contract with Schalke and am very happy about joining the club. No
one at Stuttgart can be angry with me. The club is getting more money
from the transfer than it paid me in wages in all the years I was
there. It's the biggest transfer in the club's history." The fee is
believed by the newspaper to be in the region of €7 million.

Despite his comments, the deal - concluded on Sunday and now
confirmed on the official VfB Stuttgart Web site - is believed to
contract the player to Schalke until the summer of 2008.

With Kuranyi departing for Gelsekirchen, Stuttgart are expected to
launch a raid on Nürnberg for Bundesliga top scorer Marek Mintal.

*****************************

That's a great signing for Schalke as Kuryani is the best German
striker since a few years.

Subject: Player's agent murdered in Croatia

The agent of top Croatian league star Niko Kranjcar was killed early
on Saturday morning in the country's capital, Zagreb.

The 43-year-old Dino Pokrovac was killed by gunfire on the stairs of
the building where he lived, Croatian police revealed.

The murder happened around 3 o'clock in the morning. Police still
have no details about a possible suspect.

There were also no suspects after an incident last year in which an
unknown person set a fire under Dino Pokrovac's car in the same
Korculanska Street in Zagreb.

Dino Pokrovac was the agent of talented Hajduk Split and Croatia
midfielder Niko Kranjcar.

Pokrovac was involved in Niko Kranjcar's transfer from Dinamo Zagreb
to Hajduk Split earlier this year. The transfer produced protests
from Dinamo Zagreb fans.

However, police are not connecting his murder with the transfer.

And so they missed on European football this year...
