Subject: O'Neill era ends at Celtic

Celtic FC manager Martin O'Neill is to leave the Scottish club after
five years in charge to care for his wife Geraldine who is seriously
ill, with Gordon Strachan replacing him from 1 June.

Assistants leave
O'Neill confirmed at a press conference this afternoon that he will
step down after Saturday's Scottish Cup final against Dundee United
at Hampden Park and that his assistants, John Robertson and Steve
Walford, will also leave Parkhead.

'Personal reasons'
"I am leaving Celtic purely for personal reasons and I am extremely
sorry to be departing in such circumstances," said O'Neill. "It has
been an honour and privilege to have served the club and its
supporters during that time and being part of Celtic history. My time
at Celtic has been most rewarding."

Sustained success
The 53-year-old former Northern Irish international joined Celtic
from Leicester City in June 2000 and led the Glasgow side to a period
of sustained success at home and in Europe. In his first season,
Celtic won the domestic treble; a Premier League title followed in
2002, before O'Neill steered Celtic to the UEFA Cup final in 2003
where they lost 3-2 to José Mourinho's FC Porto.

League crown lost
Another championship and Scottish Cup were added to the collection
last term, but the league crown was relinquished to Rangers FC by a
single point last Sunday following Celtic's 2-1 last-day defeat at
Motherwell FC.

Strachan in
O'Neill's successor Strachan cut his managerial teeth at Coventry
City and has been working as a television pundit since leaving
another English club, Southampton, in February 2004 due to concerns
about his health. The 48-year-old Scot has signed a one-year rolling
contract.

********************************

I have a great respect for O'Neil, he had great success with Celtic
in Europe with the magical year of 2003 and the great home form.

Subject: Le Saux hangs up boots

Former England international Graeme Le Saux has announced his
retirement from football.

The former Blackburn and Chelsea left-back has spent the last two
seasons at Southampton, but struggled with injury during the past
campaign, which saw the Saints relegated.

He said: "I decided at the beginning of the season that this would
probably be my last.

"I would much rather have retired seeing Southampton stay in the
Premiership, but it was just not meant to be.

"Having constant and intensive treatment ahead of every game, my body
knows how hard I've tried this season."

Le Saux is expected to pursue a career in the media.

******************************

The end of a great name in English football.

Fuck knows how they did it when they looked dead and buried at 3-0
down but all credit goes to them for coming back and winning on
penalties. Will they be allowed to defend their trophy now?

Yes a big name... joins the likes of Luis Enrique and Georghe Hagi.
Big names who have retired and it just seems like yesterday they
were playing at the top level.

Thank fuck.
I didn't watch the match. But I am glad AC Milan didn't win.

The first cuts were the standard medicals.
So there you are either fit to serve or not. That is 1st cuts.
The second is where they call you in (this is only for Marine
candidates) and make you do situps, pushups and have an interview.
The bastards who went after me in the interview (you are interviewed
in groups of about 10, taking turns) all copied my answer for
the "why did you volunteer?" bit so I guess that helped.
I got full marks for pushups and made the 2nd highest mark for the
situps.
That was 2nd cuts.
The next is 3rd cuts. Boot camp. That starts on the 7th of June.
June, the hottest month in Korea.
The Marines are celebrating the induction of class 1000 and
anticipate their qualification. I am class 999.

Subject: Ronaldo is Berlusconi's summer wish

Spanish daily Marca is reporting this morning that AC Milan want to
sign former Inter star Ronaldo.

"Berlusconi wants Ronaldo," reads the Madrid based paper's front page
today.

According to the article the AC Milan supremo would be ready to offer
Real around 60 million Euros in exchange for R9's services.

If the sensational deal takes place it would be a further act of
betrayal of the Brazilian striker towards the Nerazzurri fans, who
still haven't forgiven Ronaldo for going to Madrid after winning the
2002 World Cup.

-----------------------------------

I can't see this happen.
First I think that Milan deserves better than Ronaldo who won't become
any better... while Ronaldo should go to Inter if he decides to return
to Italy.

Any better? If he was any better he would win all the games by
himself with no need of 10 puppets around him.
