Subject: Porto plump for Adriaanse

Portuguese SuperLiga side FC Porto have announced that they have
appointed Co Adriaanse as coach.

Alkmaar success
The Dutchman, who guided AZ Alkmaar to the UEFA Cup semi-finals and
third place in the Eredivisie this season, will be officially
unveiled at a news conference on Tuesday. Porto, who finished second
in the Portuguese top flight, three points behind champions SL
Benfica, parted company with José Couceiro on Sunday after their
final league game of the season.

January announcement
Couceiro, who took charge of Porto in February, was the Portuguese
club's third coach this season after José Mourinho left last June to
take over at English Premiership side Chelsea. Adriaanse, meanwhile,
announced in January that he would leave Alkmaar at the end of the
season after three years in charge of the Dutch side, with Louis van
Gaal due to replace him.

-------------------------------------

That's no surprise here, he had a great season with AZ in Holland and
Europe!

Subject: Bundesliga Sets New Attendance Record

The German Bundesliga has smashed its own record in setting a new
standard as the world's best-supported football league.

The 42nd Bundesliga season ended on Saturday with 11,494,764 people
paying to see the season's 306 fixtures. This gave a final average
attendance of 37,565 per match and beat last year's new record of
36,200. Borussia Dortmund remained Germany's - and Europe's - best-
supported club with average gates of 77,353. Local rivals Schalke
were second - just as they were in the league table - on 61,241, with
champions Bayern Munich drawing 53,294 to the Olympiastadion.

The Bundesliga has been the world's best-supported football league
for over two decades. These latest figures suggest that trend is here
to stay. With the World Cup to be played in Germany in 2006, and new
stadia finished for the showpiece, there is no reason why the
Bundesliga will not go on setting further records in the seasons to
come.

-----------------------------------

Indeed, with Bayern in a new stadium and FC Koln with the 50000 fans,
it can only increase...

Time to officialy call German fans the best in the world ;)

Subject: Van Der Vaart "certain" to move to Germany

Dutch international midfielder Rafael van der Vaart has revealed that
he has agreed personal terms with Hamburger SV and expects to move
from Ajax to Germany in due course.

The 22-year-old said on Monday: "I've agreed personal terms and it's
certain that I'll be moving to Germany. HSV is a great club and I'll
be signing a four-year deal with them."

However, despite the certainty of the player, Ajax and HSV have yet
to agree a fee for the transfer. The player has a contract in
Amsterdam until 2006 and Ajax are looking to recoup about €7 million
on his sale. The Germans are willing to fork out €5 million, so a
compromise of sorts must be agreed before the deal is finalised.

Hamburger SV missed out on European qualification this season, and
see van der Vaart as a major contributor in next season's push.

--------------------------------

HSV bought some quality players already this season, but had a
disappointing season after all. But I am sure and would be glad to
see them fighting with the top 3-5 next season!

Anorthosis Famagusta FC secured their 12th Cypriot league title with

Anorthosis were virtually written off at the start of the season
because of financial problems, but in player-manager and 16-goal

Subject: Omonia celebrate cup triumph

AC Omonia lifted the Cypriot Cup for the 12th time on Sunday after a
comfortable 2-0 win against first-time finalists Dighenis Akritas
Morphou.

European berth
Victory gave Omonia a UEFA Cup berth and provided consolation for a
disappointing third-place finish in the Cypriot First Division.
Akritas, in contrast, had surprised many with their excellent season
and proved they would be no pushovers by setting up the biggest date
in their history with a semi-final success against APOEL FC.

Early chance
Akritas supporters sensed an upset as early as the first minute when
Kyriakos Chailis raced clear on goal, but his shot was intercepted by
Petros Konnafis who had tracked back to clear the danger.

Mguni scores
Omonia slowly found their composure and pressed Akritas back,
eventually opening the scoring at the end of the first half. Costas
Kaiafas's inswinging free-kick was met by the head of Zimbabwe
striker Musa Mguni who powered the ball into the right corner of
Savvas Constantinou's goal.

Akritas stretched
Chasing the lead, Akritas were forced to push forward after the
break, exposing themselves at the back in the process. Stathis
Aloneftis and Mguni both had chances to stretch Omonia's advantage
before Makis Papaioannou finally made the game safe 15 minutes from
time.

Papaioannou goal
Kaiafas was again the provider. His low free-kick was mishit by Ilias
Charalambous and fell to Papaioannou whose shot deflected off
Dimitris Maris and past Constantinou to spark Omonia's celebrations.

Last finals:
1999/00 Omonia Nicosia 4-2 APOEL Nicosia
2000/01 Apollon Limassol 1-0 Nea Salamina
2001/02 Anorthosis Famagusta 1-0 Ethnikos Achnas
2002/03 Anorthosis Famagusta 0-0 AEL Limassol [aet, 5-3 pen]
2003/04 AEK Larnaca 2-1 AEL Limassol
2004/05 Omonia Nicosia 2-0 Dighenis Akritas Morphou

Number of cups (lost finals between brackets)
17 [9] APOEL Nicosia
12 [5] Omonia Nicosia
09 [5] Anorthosis Famagusta

*************************************

First cup victory for a capital team since 5 years!!
