Subject: Hughes heads south to Villa

Aston Villa have signed defender Aaron Hughes from
Newcastle United for a fee of around €1.4m.

Out of favour
Hughes made 279 appearance over eight season for
Newcastle who were his only club. He was not a regular
in the league under new manager Graeme Souness this
season but featured in ten of Newcastle's UEFA Cup
matches on their run to the quarter-finals.

Three-year deal
The 25-year-old Northern Irish international, who has
played 43 times for his country, has signed a
three-year contract. "The challenges here are very
similar to the ones I faced at Newcastle," said
Hughes. "We need to break into the top six and qualify
for Europe at the minimum."

Who said Villa couldn't sign any player?

RSC Anderlecht central defender Vincent Kompany is Belgium's Player
of the Year following a poll of his fellow professionals.

Peer praise
Players from the country's top two divisions nominated the 19-year-
old for the prestigious award ahead of his club colleague Christian
Wilhelmsson, the Sweden midfield player, and Club Brugge captain
Timmy Simons, the winner in 2003. Kompany succeeds team-mate Aruna
Dindane following his victory last year.

Two more prizes
The Belgian international also retained his Young Player of the Year
prize and completed an impressive hat-trick by being voted the
country's leading player by fans in Belgium. Despite this triumph,
Kompany reflected on his disappointment at seeing Anderlecht concede
the title to Club Brugge.

Bittersweet night
"I would rather have won the championship than these trophies,"
Kompany said. "Especially as I cannot yet fully appreciate them -
that will only happen after I retire and have children. But the award
for best player is an especially pleasant surprise for me as I have
not played for that long."

Other honours
Midfield player Pär Zetterberg, another of Kompany's Swedish team-
mates, received the Fair Play trophy, while Silvio Proto from RAA
Louviéroise took the goalkeeping honour. Trond Sollied of Club Brugge
was named best coach, while Paul Allaerts collected the award for top
referee.

--------------------------

I wonder if he will still be in Belgium next season...

Subject: Davies set for Everton switch

Tottenham have announced that they've reached a deal with Everton to
sell midfielder Simon Davies.

A statement on their official website read: "We have agreed a deal
for Simon Davies to join Everton in a deal worth up to £4m, subject
to the player agreeing personal terms."

The clubs Sporting Director Frank Arnesen added: "Simon has given
this club great service but he was ready for a new challenge and we
wish him all the best."

The Welsh international joined from Peterborough in January 2000 and
became an instant hit, but his form dipped after a string of injuries
and he's been unable to recapture his best form.

Tottenham are expected to sign young right-wingers Wayne Routledge
and Aaron Lennon from Crystal Palace and Leeds United.

--------------------------------

Isn't Davies an important player to Spurs??

It is really a surprise. Fuck knows how Ellis managed to do this.

I think he is. But for 4 million to get rid of an injury prone
player... not bad I guess.

hes replaceable. hes not played too great this season and last season
as injuries have haunted him. played well last couple of games and
liked by the fans but no major loss. its not like losing king, defoe
or robinson
